My Story

During a field visit, an IGP social worker noticed a girl walking alone on the road. After asking people in the village, the social worker learned that the girl’s name was Bushira, and that her parents did not provide for her or send her to school, preferring to support her younger brother. When the social worker confronted Bushira’s parents, they said they did not want to educate their daughter. They feared that she might do better than her brother, and they believed that girls should take care of the home. When Bushira was at home, her father would grow angry and beat her.

The social worker explained that she would be taking legal action against the parents if they did not change their behavior. Bushira’s parents were unhappy that they would need to treat their children equally, but they agreed to allow Bushira to begin her education through sponsorship.

If you choose to sponsor Bushira, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, Bushira will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, Bushira will begin to know that she is loved and valued.
