My Story

When Hemalatha’s mother was diagnosed with brain cancer, her father began to fall apart. Desperate to save his wife, he worked hard and focused all of his free time on battling the cancer. As a result, he began to severely neglect the needs of his two young daughters. Family and neighbors began to feed the sisters. When her father began physically abusing the girls out of frustration and helplessness, a family member took Hemalatha’s sister away to safety. Hemalatha stayed to take care of both her mother and the home, continuing to endure abuse and neglect from her father. Her mother was filled with sadness at her daughter’s life, but was incapable of preventing it.

When an IGP social worker visited the family home, Hemalatha’s father broke down and acknowledged his abuse. He said he was financially unwilling to send her to school so he could continue paying for his wife’s medical care, but would allow her to go through IGP’s sponsorship program.

Hemalatha’s little life has been incredibly traumatic. If you choose to sponsor Hemalatha, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, she will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, Hemalatha will begin to know that she is loved and valued.
