Haripriya, a neglected child in a poverty-stricken family, suffered from her parents' alcoholism and gender-based mistreatment. Her parents were desperate for a son, leaving Haripriya and her sister to endure hunger, physical abuse, and forced labor. While her sister found refuge with relatives, Haripriya remained unwanted, lonely, and neglected. IGP Social workers intervened after learning of her plight, confronting her parents about their neglect and superstitions. With support from IGP and our partner on the ground, Haripriya now has access to education and a nurturing environment, offering hope for a brighter future away from neglect and discrimination. Regular monitoring and counseling by social workers will continue to ensure her well-being and continued progress toward a better life.
